Neurodiverse Brick Builders is a unique, hands-on STEM program offered in partnership with e² Young Engineers Brampton, an international organization dedicated to increasing STEM awareness and inspiring the next generation of engineers through engaging edutainment-based learning.

Designed for children ages 5–12 who are on the spectrum, this program introduces foundational concepts in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) through active, intuitive learning. Using LEGO®-based engineering challenges, students explore mathematics and physics principles while developing creativity, problem-solving skills, and independent thinking in a structured, supportive environment.

Participants learn key concepts from classical mechanics, including the laws of physics, kinetic and potential energy, centrifugal and centripetal force, inertia, torque, leverage points, load distribution, angular momentum, action–reaction, lift force, and more. Children apply age-appropriate mathematical skills to plan, calculate, build, test, and refine their models, reinforcing real-world engineering processes.

This program is intentionally inclusive and supportive of neurodivergent learners, offering predictable routines, visual supports, and guided collaboration. Sessions balance independent building with small-group teamwork, helping children strengthen communication, turn-taking, flexible thinking, patience, and emotional regulation. No prior LEGO, robotics, or coding experience is required.

Program Objectives

  • Foster planning and time-management skills
  • Encourage independent and creative thinking
  • Develop the ability to analyze engineering processes
  • Broaden understanding of physics laws and natural phenomena
  • Improve spatial recognition and fine motor skills
  • Build confidence, self-efficacy, and resilience
  • Expand interpersonal communication and collaboration skills

Who This Program Is For:

This program is ideal for children who can participate in a small-group, structured learning environment and are ready for hands-on STEM exploration. Children should demonstrate most of the following readiness skills:

  • Follow 1–2 step directions with visual or verbal support
  • Participate in an activity for at least 15 minutes
  • Use basic fine motor skills to manipulate LEGO pieces
  • Communicate basic needs or choices
  • Show interest in building, problem-solving, or STEM
  • Take turns and share materials with adult guidance
  • Tolerate frustration and accept help when needed
  • Transition between activities with support
  • Demonstrate basic safety awareness

Above all, Bricks Challenge & Neurodiverse Brick Builders builds more than models—it builds confidence, connection, and real-world skills through purposeful play.
